Snow in the Peak District

Head south along a footpath from Hartington and you walk across some open fields before meeting the River Dove and walking down a beautiful limestone valley.  The first time we did this walk, it was Easter but a warm day with brilliant blue skies and the second time was in the snow.  Both made for great exploring.   This painting captures the beginning of the walk with the patchwork fields and the livestock barn. Snow gives a whole new take on the colours of the countryside.  What initially looks a limited pallet is actually a wide range of blues and lilacs.
