Commissions
Commissions
Commissions are always welcome. There may be some delay depending on workloads so it’s good to book well ahead.
It is always an honour to be asked for a commission whether it has been to paint landscapes, wedding locations, honeymoon destinations, to Mary and Jesus for a Walsall church.
Why choose me?
Firstly, thank you for even considering asking me to create something for you that’s so special to you. Somethings you might like to know:
- our initial discussions will not cost you anything
- your budget will determine the direction we take and no matter what tthat is I can work with it. Once I know your budget, I can give you the options that would be available. Even a small piece of art can be made to look dramatic with clever presentation.
- once we have agreed on the details of your painting, a non refundable deposit will be required to cover materials. The remaining balance to be paid on completion.
- I will give you progress reports throughout and photographs if you wish.
- There are two options once it’s finished. Free collection or delivery if you live in or near the Lichfield area or the artwork will be packaged safely and posted using Royal Mail (cost of this is extra but will be discussed along with the commission price).
- But probably and most importantly, in choosing me, you will have someone who listens carefully to your wishes. By using a little artistic licence if needed, the final piece can have the specific features you would like, making it personal and special. I will find out as much as I can about the subject to make sure I capture the magic. It will have all my focus.
So please feel free to contact and discuss any ideas obligation free.
In reality, what a commission looks like
Receiving a commission is a real honour but it is also a moment of taking a breath and realising the responsibility you have to make their imagined ideas of a special place a reality. Plenty of preparation and discussions though, makes sure that I am really clear on what my client is looking for and then I also like to give regular updates on progress to ensure that I am working within their vision.
A recent commission I took on was to be a wedding present from a groom to his bride of their wedding venue to be opened on the morning of the ceremony. The photographer kindly sent photos of the venue that he had previously taken and the client was able to explain what he would like the composition to look like and what features he especially wanted to be included. We discussed the angle of the view of the house, that the barn behind must be included because this was where the ceremony was to be held, they had loved the countryside surrounding the venue so a sense of that would be good and it make it a soft summery sky. It was a joy to put all these pieces together and create something so bespoke. We also discussed painting surface and framing options.
As the artist, for me the colour of the building was key, it looks different depending on the weather but being a typical Cotswold building the buttery colour was something I wanted to make sure stood out. The greenery was used to frame the painting and complement the building colour and shape (softening the structural features). The sky had soft blues and hints to lavender, to brighten the image and give a sense of warmth.
I was really proud of the final product and the response from the client and his bride was so rewarding. Below is a picture the client sent of the gift opening (©️Bigeye Photography).
