Samwidge is not an artist term but something of a recent discovery!
Let me give you a bit of background…
I enjoy the build up to Christmas as an artist because as well as painting new pieces, I also use it to try something a bit different. Last year I tried engraving, this year gilding.
Some of the process of prepping for Christmas decorations requires a little less concentration than painting and it gives me time to think. Today’s thought is based on an outtake I saw of Taskmaster. One of the contestants had discovered they had been pronouncing ‘sandwich’ wrong for all of their 30 years! Everyone was laughing, I had a laugh and then later I thought, hang on, how do I pronounce it?
Always difficult when you put yourself on the spot but after a few try’s of it in a sentence, I’ve realised I pronounce it ‘samwidge’! So now it goes on to the list of other words I pronounce incorrectly much to my husband’s amusement.
So why is this the subject of my blog this week? Well, I’ve mentioned before that when I look at a painting, I can often remember what I was listening too or the programme I had on in the background. But this time, if you get one of this years Christmas decorations, you can know I was thinking of samwidges.
