Before I was an artist

Before I was an artist

Before I was an artist… I was a VIP ranger for the National Park Service.

Has it influenced my work? Without a doubt. My love of landscapes, big skies and geology began there when I was just 9 years old and getting to work there at 24 felt like a dream I still can’t quite believe happened. The friendships I made along the way make it all feel very real though, and very special.

Arches National Park is a place like no other. A vast desert of red sandstone, where time and erosion have shaped over 200 natural stone arches, some as grand as cathedrals, others like small windows in the rock.

That contrast of deep red stone against endless blue skies and nights filled with more stars than you can count.  It stays with you. And, I think, finds its way into my work more than I ever realised.
